In 1999 I was approached by a large UK software distributor who wanted to professionally package and distribute Definite Linux and offered what seemed an attractive financial proposition for exclusive right to commercial exploitation of the name (the trademark).
It seems that the time was not right for yet another general purpose distribution as while it did sell reasonably well, it was not a great success.
Furthermore, due to relaxation of US law, Red Hat[tm] were finally able to address many of the security issues that had driven me to produce Definite Linux.
In late 2000 I took the decision to discontinue development of Definite Linux as a general purpose distribution and concentrate my efforts exclusively on UKLINUX.NET - the ISP I co-founded with Definite Software Ltd.
Definite Linux is outdated and should certainly not be used today. Many of the core networking packages have since been discovered to have various bugs that may lead to security problems. These bugs have all been fixed in later released of modern distributions so I strongly recommend that you use the most recent release of a current distribution and make sure you apply all the security patched.
When these are ready I will announce them.
